12.08.08: Grab bag

It was a nite of separate ways, so He dashed together a pastrami bagel with mature cheddar and grain mustard, while She later roamed the aisles of Waitrose, feeling uncharacteristically uninspired to cook, and settled on the Halloumi Cheese with a Warm Salad of Beans and Lentils in a Tomato and Basil Dressing.

HE SAYS: Tesco's pastrami is not bad and I have finally found a bagel there that is also not bad either. The photo shows it open faced but I squished both sides together in order to gobble it up quick before I dashed out the door.

SHE SAYS:
'Deliciously Different', my derriere. Fortunately this readymade entree tasted slightly better than it smelled - there was a disgusting burnt odour billowing up from the plastic tray. The butterbeans and lentils were tender and quite good; the tomato water - I mean, dressing - was forgivably bland. But they made halloumi cheese taste bad. That takes some doing. The painted-on charcoal stripes tasted like they look: badly burnt. At least there wasn't much cheese to choke down, just a couple of skinny squares. We won't get fooled again.

29.05.08: Train food

Rushing off to a scholarly event straight after work, She picked up a Crayfish and Rocket sandwish while He snagged a posh-bag New York Deli Pastrami, all courtesy of M&S.

HE SAYS: Just like Katz's Deli in New York, er, no, not exactly but still pretty tasty. I was starving so it was gone before I could take any mental notes apart from
the mustard being a little too sweet. I could've done with a kosher dill pickle to round it off and some celery soda to wash it down (or maybe not, it tastes like piss!).

SHE SAYS: Never lets me down: juicy crayfish, mature spicy rocket, and just enough mayo to help it slide down the chute. Served well to sustain me as we waited 45 minutes on the track and missed most of our event (pout pout) - but at least we weren't hungry!

08.02.08: Quick grab

Jetting to a Friday nite gig means M&S for dinner, so fast we forgot to take the picture first: The reliable crayfish and rocket sandwich for Her, the New York pastrami for Him.

SHE SAYS: Always more filling than you'd think, and tasty enough that I don't feel cheated out of dinner.

HE SAYS: Not bad for a bite on the run, but not exactly up there with Katz's Deli, my pastrami haven of choice when I'm in NY.
